MEAC ANNOUNCES BASEBALL WEEKLY HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State freshman Cameron Onderko earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Friday.  North Carolina A&T’s Tyler Boone was named Pitcher of the Week while Will Grebenstein of Coppin State earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Onderko (INF, 5-8, 165, Fr., McKeesport, Pa.) batted .727 (8-for-11) with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI to aid the Hornets to a 3-0 finish last week.  The freshman was perfect (1.000) in the first game against Maryland Eastern Shore with three hits on three at-bats including one double and one RBI in a 5-1 win.  Defensively he recorded five putouts and 11 assists for the week.

Boone (RHP, 6-4, 165, Jr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) pitched his first shutout of the season with a 9-0 win against Florida A&M and helped the Aggies clinch a berth to the MEAC Tournament.  He recorded an ERA of .000 in 8.2 innings and struck out five of 34 batters.  He retired the first nine batters he faced in a row. 

Grebenstein (P, 5-9, 150, Fr., Laurel, Md.) pitched a complete game with an ERA of 1.29 in a 3-1 victory over Norfolk State.  He went 7.0 innings and allowed five hits and one run with no walks.  He also struck out five of the 26 batters he faced.

Other Top Performances

Michael Austin (B-CU) posted an ERA of 2.08 in 4.1 innings against No. 30 Central Florida and allowed just two hits and one run while striking out five.

Shane Davies (CSU) went 7.1 innings with an ERA of 1.23, allowing five hits and one run in a 4-1 win over Norfolk State.

David Duncan (FAMU) recorded a .000 ERA in 9.0 innings with two strikeouts against North Carolina A&T.  He became the first Rattlers’ pitcher to win his first three consecutive starts.

Montana Durapau (B-CU) recorded a 9-2 victory over Savannah State in 7.0 innings while allowing five hits, one earned run and striking out six batters.

Jordan Elliott (DSU) pitched nine innings with an ERA of 1.000 including seven strikeouts and two doubles against Maryland Eastern Shore. 

Tre-von Johnson (UMES) hit .750 (3-for-4) from the plate with two runs scored and one stolen base in a loss to Delaware State.

Cooper Jones (NSU) earned his first career pitching win with five-plus innings of shutout ball against Coppin State to help the Spartans post a 4-0 victory. 

Raymond Morton (NSU) pitched four hitless inning to earn a save in the Spartans’ 4-0 shutout against Coppin State.  

Luke Tendler (NCAT) batted .400 with one triple, two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI in four games last week for Aggies.
