MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

Maryland Eastern Shore senior Tre-von Johnson earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday.  Justin Bhatti of Norfolk State was named Pitcher of the Week, while NSU teammate Robert Barefoot earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Johnson (OF, 6-3, 210, Sr., East New Market, Md.) batted .750 (3-for-4), including one double and four RBI to aid the Hawks to a 8-5 win over University of Maryland – Baltimore County last week. 

Bhatti (P, 6-3, 170, Jr., Woodbridge, Va.) earned a 0.00 ERA with eight strikeouts against 19 batters faced in 4-2 win over Old Dominion.  Though he did not receive the decision, Bhatti allowed only two walks and two hits in five innings pitched.

Barefoot (C, 5-9, 160, Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) hit the pinch-hit, go-ahead 2-run single to lift Norfolk State to a 4-2 win over Old Dominion.  He finished the week with 2 RBI and two putouts in the two meetings against ODU.

Other Top Performances

Michael Austin (B-CU) aided the Wildcats at the plate as designated hitter batting .500 (2-for-4) with one run scored and one RBI in a 9-3 win over Savannah State. 

Scott Garner (B-CU) finished 1-1 with an ERA of 2.00 in 9.0 innings pitched including five strikeouts for the Wildcats last week.

Sean Woods (UMES) pitched 2.0 innings and recorded a 0.00 ERA including two strike outs against seven batters faced.
