Mercer edges FAMU, 7-6
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Mercer University held off a Florida A&M Baseball team late innings rally as the Bears held on for a 7-6 win over the Rattlers, here Wednesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field in their final game of their two-game series.
FAMU (4-38) was led by Kelvin Singletary as he recorded three of the Rattlers 10 hits, followed by both Marlon Gibbs and Bennie Robinson as they finished with two hits each for FAMU.
MU (33-12) also finished with 10 hits as the Bears had three batters to finish with two hits each.
Dimitri Kourtis (3-0) picked up the win for MU as he gave up two hits, and striking out three in his two innings of relief, while David Teasley (3) got the save as he pitched one-third of an inning, striking out the only batter he faced.
Cameron Simms (0-1) received the loss for the Rattlers as he pitched two innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and striking out one in the nine batters he faced.
Hornets lose to Navy
Dover, Del. - Delaware State committed a season-high six errors in a 7-2 loss to Navy at Soldier Field today. The Hornet miscues resulted in four unearned runs for the Midshipmen.
Bartek (3-5) allowed just one hit in 3.1 scoreless innings to earn the win for the Middies.
Bobby Brown (1-2), the second of four DSU pitchers, was tagged with the loss.
Alexander had two of the Hornets’ four hits.
Delaware State returns to action with a three-game MEAC North series at Norfolk State this weekend. The Hornets lead second place Norfolk by six games in the MEAC standings.
B-CU Doubles-Up On Florida Gulf Coast In 10th For 8-7 Victory
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (28-19) overcame a comeback attempt by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (22-16) Wednesday night at Swanson Stadium with an 8-7 victory. The Wildcats never trailed the Eagles but delivered in the clutch in extra innings, collecting the winning run on consecutive two-out doubles in the tenth.
Facing two outs in the top of the 10th, Shaun McCarty came up big with a double to left center and Josh Johnson came through in the clutch for the Wildcats, doubling the first pitch deep down the left field line to plate McCarty’s run.
Jordan Dailey (5-0) earned the win, securing three flyouts in the bottom of the tenth, after pitching the game’s longest appearance (3 1/3 innings), allowing two hits and striking out two. FGCU’s Harrison Cooney (2-4)earned the loss after pitching three innings.
In addition to the game-winning RBI, Johnson was solid for the Wildcats all day, leading the team with 3-for-5 batting, two RBI and one run scored. McCarty was 2-for-5 with an RBI and the scoring the winning run. Modena went 1-for-5 but logged two RBI.

Georgetown Tops Coppin State 13-6
BALTIMORE, Md. - Georgetown broke a 3-3 tie with a six-run fifth inning and went on to defeat Coppin State 13-6 in a non-conference game Wednesday at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Georgetown (23-15) tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the fourth inning and then pulled away from the Eagles by scoring six times in the fifth inning. The Hoyas added two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning.
Curtis Pomeroy went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs to lead the Hoyas offense, while Corbin Blakey went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Coppin State (12-27) was led by Chris Kashangaki, David Hamlett and Jack Kraft who each had two hits.
James Heine picked up the win for Georgetown in relief, while Jhar Devilme took the loss for Coppin State.
