UMES Falls to Navy 13-2

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Despite multi-hit contests by Jeffrey Fleetwood and Stephen Bull, UMES fell to Navy 13-2 on Tuesday at Hawks Stadium.  The Hawks fall to 6-33 while the Midshipmen improve to 20-19.

Gaiss earned the victory, going six innings with one run and five strikeouts.  The loss went to Black, who went 6.1 innings, his longest outing of his career, with seven runs charged.

Fleetwood reached base three times on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Bull earned the first two hits of the game for the Hawks, finishing 2-for-4 in the contest.

For the Midshipmen, Veech had a home run and two doubles, going 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI.  Currie brought in three RBI in the game, finishing 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

UMES will prepare for its Route 13 rival Delaware State, taking on the Hornets in a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Hawks Stadium.

Alabama State Stings Rattlers, 14-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  - The Florida A&M Baseball team was defeated by Alabama State, 14-1 here Tuesday night at Wheeler- Watkins Stadium in a non-conference mid-week series.

FAMU (3-36) finished the contest with six hits as Marlon Gibbs finished with two of them.

The Hornets (23-17) tallied game high 20 hits as Dillon Cooper finished a perfect five-for-five from the plate for ASU.

Anthony Ricciardi (2-5) picked up the win for the Hornets as he pitched nine innings, allowing six hits, and striking out nine in the 30 batters he faced.

Jordan Montague received the loss for the Rattlers as he pitched five and two-third innings, along 16 hits, 13 earned runs and striking out two in the 36 batters he faced.

FAMU scored their run in the top of the sixth inning as Bennie Robin son doubled to left center scoring Gibbs, cutting ASU’s lead to 8-1.

Bethune-Cookman Holds Off FIU Rally for First-Ever Season Sweep

 

MIAMI, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (23-18) capitalized on timely hitting with runners in scoring position and the miscues of the FIU Panthers (20-16), using a stout effort from the pitching staff to hold on for the 4-3 victory,

 

The Wildcats capitalized on Panthers’ miscues early in the game, first scoring in the top of the third with Shaun McCarty crossing the plate, coming home from third on a pickoff error by FIU starter John Caballero. Brandon Turner would double up the effort, scoring from second on Eros Modena’s RBI single to right center, granting the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

  

Ferguson (3-2) earned the win over the Panthers.

 

Shaun McCarty led the Wildcats at the plate with a 2-for-3 batting performance, both doubles to left field. Modena and Stokes each earned RBI. The Wildcats collectively tallied nine runs on the night.

  

The Wildcats remain in the Miami metro area for the night, preparing for another key rematch on the week, as B-CU faces Miami (24-15) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Alex Rodriguez Park in Coral Gables. At the last meeting, the Wildcats defeated the Hurricanes 5-3. B-CU is now one win away from sweeping the Miami Metro teams for the first time in school history.
