Savannah State defeat Rattlers

SAVANNAH, Ga.  - The Florida A&M Baseball team dropped a 9-0 decision to Savannah State as the Tigers won the three-games series at Tiger Baseball Field in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest.

FAMU (3-35, 3-15 MEAC) finished the contest with four hits as Justin Abney finished with two of them.

SSU (21-15, 9-5) tallied a game high 10 hits as the Tigers had three players to finish with two hits each.

Redford Davis (5-1) got the win for SSU as he pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing four this and striking out five in the 27 batters he faced, while Jason Wynn pitched one inning in relief, just allowing one walk in the three batters he faced.

Brandon Fleming (0-1)  received the loss for the e Rattlers as he pitched seven inning, allowing nine hits, four earned runs and striking out six in the 34 batters he faced, while Jordan Montague pitched one inning in relief as he struck out one and walked one in the four batters he faced.

Day’s Big Day Helps NSU Win 4th Straight Weekend Series

NORFOLK, Va. – Junior outfielder Cameron Day went a career-best 4-for-4 and just lacked a home run for the cycle as Norfolk State rallied for a 6-2 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field.

Day singled twice, doubled, tripled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Spartans (13-20, 8-7 MEAC), who won their fourth straight weekend series by taking Sunday’s rubber game against the Hawks (6-32, 3-12).

Ray Morton (3-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief for NSU. He allowed just one hit and struck out one batter. Bhatti took a no-decision, striking out a season-high nine hitters in six innings. He yielded just four hits and two runs, and walked three.

Parker (2-3) took the loss for the Hawks, giving up three hits and three runs in 1.1 innings of work.

Markel, Lee and Strenn had two hits each for NSU, which out-hit the Hawks 11-5. Strenn scored a pair of runs.

Campbell was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for UMES.

Bethune-Cookman defeats North Carolina Central

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University scored eight runs in a three inning span to pull away from North Carolina Central University to win the rubber match between the two 9-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.

B-CU (22-18, 12-6 MEAC) went on to score five runs in the next two innings to pull away for good and take the game and series 9-2. In those frames, the Wildcats amassed nine hits and crushed two home runs to

The Wildcats game three starter Durapau went 7.0 innings and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts, while Romano lasted 4.0 innings allowing eight hits and six earned runs.

Franceschetti led NCCU going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. The Eagles struck out 11 times in the loss.

Hornets take doubleheader verses Coppin State

Dover, Del. --- Delaware State rode shutouts by Elliott Gardner and Matt McClain to defeat Coppin State in a MEAC North doubleheader at Soldier Field today. The Hornets won the first game 12-0 and completed the sweep with a 6-0 win in the nightcap. Delaware State swept the three-game series to improve to 24-10 overall and 13-2 in the MEAC. DSU is in first place in the league standings.

The Hornets outscored the Eagles 28-2 in the series. DSU pitchers did not allow a run in the last 25 innings of the series. Delaware State has eight shutout wins this season.

In the opener, Gardner tossed his second shutout of the season to improve to 4-0. He allowed just three singles, while striking out eight. He has thrown 22 consecutive scoreless innings over the last four games.

Delaware State’s Ryan Haas and Mike Alexander drove in three runs each, while Aaron Nardone was 3-for-3 with two RBI in the opener.

The Hornets put three more runs on the board in the sixth. Onderko and J.P. had run scoring singles in the inning.

Hassan Evans was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Onderko was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in game two. Onderko was 4-for-6 in the doubleheader.
