Eagles Shutout Aggies To Clinch Series

DURHAM, N.C. - Junior Terry McNabb's complete game shutout on the hill along with a number of damaging RBIs were the recipe for success for North Carolina Central as the Eagles shut down the rival Aggies of North Carolina A&T 10-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Durham Athletic Park to earn the series victory two-game-to-one.

The rubber match of the series stood at a standstill for the first three innings with McNabb retiring 10 of the first 12 batters including two strikeouts, while NC A&T starter Justin Godette walked three batters, but the Eagles stranded runners in every inning.

The contest was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to the MEAC's 10-run rule and the maroon and gray earned the series win over the Aggies.

McNabb (2-1) earned the complete game shutout victory for the Eagles, going all seven innings allowing only four hits with three strikeouts.

Godette (0-2) earned the loss going 3.1 innings surrendering four runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Second baseman Luke Tendler was the lone Aggie to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 at-the-dish in the loss for NC A&T (4-7, 1-2 MEAC).

Hawks Defeated In Pair Of Games On Sunday At UMES Tournament

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Hawks had a tough end to the UMES Tournament, falling to Cornell 6-2 and St. Peter's 12-3 in eight innings on Sunday.  UMES falls to 1-11 on the year.  Cornell and St. Peter's improve to 3-1 and 4-4 repsectively.

J.P. Black came in and pitched very well against the Big Red, not allowing a run in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

In the bottom of the seventh with two out, Connor Breslin drove the ball to deep left for a double.  Next batter, Thomas Gray hit a single to shallow left, scoring Breslin and putting the Hawks on the board.  UMES trailed 5-1 after seven.

Cornell added a run in the top of the ninth off a Ben Swinford RBI ground out, scoring Kevin Tatum and making it 6-1 Big Red.

UMES tried to rally in the ninth, getting first and third with one out.  Gray brought home Malik Wylie on a sacrifice fly to right, but it was not enough as UMES fell to Cornell 6-2 in the opening game.

The win went to starter Jones, who on a pitch count went three innings with four strikeouts and no runs.  Hernandez got the loss, allowing five runs, just two earned, in 3.2 innings.  Black went 4.1 innings without allowing a run across.

In game two, UMES took on St. Peter's in hopes to get a game.  But the Peacocks started by rallying for nine runs in the opening five innings, including eight off UMES starter Zachary Saca, to lead early.

Down 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Hawks finally got some hitting against St. Peter's starter Eric Mozeika (1-1).  Byron Campbell led off the inning with a double, followed by a Jeffrey Fleetwood single to put runners on the corners.  Wylie reached on a fielding error at short, allowing Campbell to score.  Two batters after Joshua James singled to load the bases, Dustin Aigner drew a walk to push across Fleetwood.  With Tim Gray batting, Mozeika made a throwing error towards second, allowing Wylie to score and make it 9-3 St. Peter's.

But the Hawks could not add anymore, and the Peacocks added two in the seventh and one in the eighth.  After eight innings, the game was called due to darkness.

Mozeika earns his first win of the season with six innings pitched, giving up three runs with two strikeouts.  Saca got the loss with four innings and was charged with eight runs, only seven earned.

Fleetwood hit 3-for-6 combined in the two games, adding a walk.  Campbell also had three hits, scoring a run.  Aigner just played in game two, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Wildcats Use Eighth-Inning Rally to Complete Sweep of FAMU, 3-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (6-6, 3-0 MEAC) completed their first series sweep of the 2013 season, taking down the Florida A&M Rattlers (0-11, 0-3 MEAC) in a third-game late-inning comeback victory at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, opening MEAC play with a perfect record.

After two scoreless and hitless innings, the Rattlers made the first strike as Kendall Weeks singled through the left side, was sacrificed to second and reached third on another single. He came home for the early lead on a groundout, moving Florida A&M ahead 1-0.

FAMU upped their advantage to 2-0 in the sixth, as Ryan Debi hit deep into the left side pocket and beat the throw for the RBI, extending the inning with two away.

The Wildcats began to make their move in the bottom half of the frame, opening with a leadoff walk for David Lee. Anthony Stokes fired a bullet back at the pitcher into center, and a flyout moved Lee to third. Matt Noble put the hosts on the board, slipping a grounder past the FAMU third baseman, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.

The Wildcats continued their push in the eighth, as Modena led off with a triple over the right fielder's glove on the run. After an additional base on balls for Lee, Stokes plated the tie run with a sacrifice fly. Sams followed up with a pulled single through the right side. Noble again delivered in the clutch as he fired a hot shot over third base for an RBI two-bagger, granting B-CU the 3-2 lead.

Jordan Dailey was brought out of the pen to notch his second save, inducing a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to secure the victory and MEAC series sweep for the Wildcats.

Starter Anthony stokes pitched a career-high four innings, allowing just three hits and collecting four strikeouts with just one walk, receiving great bullpen support from Christopher Waltermire (2.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) and Byron Ferguson (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) to bridge the gap to Dailey. A freshman, Ferguson (1-0) would earn his first collegiate decision on the outing.

Noble topped the team with 2-for-4 batting and a pair of RBI, both in crucial approach situations that would determine the game's outcome. Modena also hit 2-for-4, scoring one run, while Stokes was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
