The seven-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will make their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament Gainesville Regional, the team learned Monday afternoon during ESPNU's NCAA DI Selection Show.
In his first season at the helm of Bethune-Cookman's program, Head Coach Jason Beverlin kept the program right on track, with the seventh straight 30-plus win season, extending both the consecutive MEAC titles and NCAA appearances streaks.
The Wildcats (34-25) will take on a Regional field of top-seeded Florida (42-18), Georgia Tech (36-24), and College of Charleston (37-20), marking the seventh straight Regional appearance for the Wildcats, and 15th NCAA Tournament appearance overall.
The Wildcats first opponent, the Florida Gators, is familiar foes; as is the Regional facility. B-CU took on the Gators in game four of the 2012 season, pushing UF to the wire in the 8-6 loss. The teams met again late in the year, with the Gators winning 10-1 amidst and 11-game B-CU road swing. Both games were at UF's McKethan Stadium.
The Wildcats will face Florida Friday, June 1, live on ESPN3 at 7:00 p.m. EST, again at McKethan Stadium.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets won the ACC Tournament on Sunday with an 8-5 win over Miami, while College of Charleston's Cougars wrapped the season as SoCon regular season Co-Champions as an at-large selection.
