MEAC Baseball Championship: Day Three

Bethune-Cookman Advances With 9-0 Sweep of Norfolk State

The defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats scored seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-0 sweep of Norfolk State on Friday morning at the Marty L. Miller Field.

With the win, the Wildcats (32-24) advance to Saturday's  Noon match against the winner of Friday's second game between Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Spartans (22-27) will play North Carolina A&T in an elimination game this afternoon.

As a team, Bethune-Cookman posted 16 hits and nine RBI. David Lee was 4-for-5 with three RBI to lead the Wildcats.

James Taylor, Tyon Ore and Chris Warren each notched a hit for the Spartans.

Montana Durapau improved to 4-6 allowing t three hits and striking out six batters in 8.0 innings.

Ryan VanAssche (4-7) allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned), with eight strikeouts in the loss.  


Top Seed Delaware State Falls to Maryland Eastern Shore 7-6

Maryland Eastern Shore upset top seeded Delaware State 7-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field. DSU will face North Carolina Central in an elimination contest this evening. 

Delaware State led 5-2 before the Hawks scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead. After the Hornets tied the game with a run in the last of the seventh, UMES scored the winning run on a two-out triple by Stephen Bull in the top of the ninth.

Bull led the Hawks with three hits, one run and two RBI. Jeffrey Fleetwood had two hits and added two more RBI for UMES.

 Scott Davis led the Hornets with two hits, one run and two RBI.

Zachary Saca (4-2) earned the win allowing one hit, one run (one earned) in 4.0 innings.

Matt McClain pitched 6.2 innings with 10 hits and six runs (five earned) in the loss.

North Carolina A&T Eliminates Norfolk State, 18-1

North Carolina A&T eliminated Norfolk State with a 18-1 win in an elimination game of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field.


The Aggies (20-35) advanced in the tourney and will face the winner of Friday night's Delaware State/North Carolina Central game tomorrow afternoon.

Andre McKoy went 4-for-5 with four RBI to lead North Carolina A&T. Kelvin Freeman and Luke Tendler each added two RBI.

Tyon Ore scored the only run of the game for the Spartans while four players tallied one a piece.

Brent Moore (5-6) earned the win with four scoreless innings for the Aggies.

Justin Bhatti (4-7) took the loss after allowing eight hits and nine runs (eight earned) in 4.0 innings.

The Spartans end their season at 22-28.

Delaware State Eliminates North Carolina Central, 16-2

Delaware State eliminated North Carolina Central, 16-2 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship tournament Marty Miller Field.

Delaware State will face North Carolina A&T in another elimination contest on Saturday afternoon.

The top-seeded Hornets tallied 19 hits on four NCCU pitchers.

Delaware State scored six runs in the fourth and plated seven in the sixth inning. Six DSU players had at least two hits. Eight Hornets hit safely in the contest. 

Catcher Eddie Sorondo was 4-for-4 with four runs batted in, while JP Frey had three hits (3-for-3) and a RBI. Ryan Haas had two hits (2-for-4) and drove in three runs.

Troy Marrow and Tyler Murphy each had an RBI in the loss for the Eagles.

Zach Adkins (8-1) allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, in the complete game win.

Sam Fuller (4-4) took the loss allowing seven hits and five runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings.

The game was called after NCCU batted in the seventh due to the 10-run rule.
