MEAC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR MAY 16-20

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its 2012 Baseball Championship Wednesday, May 16 through Sunday, May 20 at the Marty L. Miller Field on the campus of Norfolk State University.

The Delaware State University Hornets and defending MEAC Champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats finished as division leaders and will enter tournament play as the number one seeds.

Delaware State finished atop the standings in the northern division with a 22-2 MEAC record and 35-15-1 overall mark.  The Hornets have won 17 of their last 18 games and will seek their first MEAC baseball title since 1989.

Norfolk State earned the second seed in the northern division followed by Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.

Bethune-Cookman (30-24, 18-5 MEAC) will compete for their seventh consecutive MEAC title and 14th overall. The Wildcats clinched the southern division's top seed with a series win over Savannah State last weekend.

North Carolina Central clinched the second seed while North Carolina A&T is the third seed in the south. The Savannah State Tigers earned the fourth and final seed.
 
The 2012 MEAC Baseball Championship tournament gets underway Wednesday, May 16 beginning at 9 a.m.

Norfolk State (N2) will face North Carolina A&T (S3) on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Games two and three will include Bethune-Cookman (S1) against Coppin State (N4) and Delaware State (1N) and Savannah State (4S). North Carolina Central (S2) and Maryland Eastern Shore (3N) will complete the action on day one beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Only the top four teams in each division can compete in the two-game elimination tournament and vie for the championship title.  Florida A&M (5-19) was eliminated from post season play.
