MEAC ANNOUNCES BASEBALL WEEKLY HONORS

NORFOLK, Va., April 30, 2012- Bethune-Cookman senior Brashad Johnson earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State's Jordan Elliott was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Mikey Bruno of Norfolk State earned Rookie of the Week accolades for the second straight week.

Johnson (SS, 6-1, Sr., New Hope, Minn.) hit .619 with two doubles, four runs, and nine RBI to aid the Wildcats to a 3-2 record last week. He also recorded seven stolen bases and a .714 slugging percentage during the five games. In the second game of the series against North Carolina A&T, the senior was 4-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI in a 15-13 victory.

Elliott (P, 6-3, r-Jr., Lincoln, Del.) struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed five hits in a complete game 23-0 shutout win against Coppin State. The red-shirt junior allowed one walk in 6.0 innings and has thrown 13 straight shutout innings.

Bruno (OF, 5-10, Fr., Fredericksburg, Va.) tallied one triple, a double, two runs, and four RBI for the Spartans in four games last week. The rookie went 1-for-3 with his first career triple, two runs, and two RBI in an 8-4 win over North Carolina Central.

Justin Bhatti (NSU) pitched 6.0 innings allowing three hits and one earned run in a 4-0 loss to William and Mary.

Cameron Cecil (DSU) batted a .529 with two homeruns, two doubles, 10 runs, and seven RBI last week for the Hornets.

Dylan Drayton (NCCU) hit .667 (2-for-3) with one triple, a run, and three RBI in a 13-11 loss to Savannah State.

Ian Farris (SSU) batted a .667 with one double, a run and three RBI in a 13-11 win over North Carolina Central.

Chase Kyriacou (NSU) was 7-for-16 (.438) with one homerun, three runs, and four RBI, to aid the Spartans to a 2-2 record last week.

Joe Mackey (NCAT) earned a 3.00 ERA, allowed two hits and one run over 3.0 innings in a 7-5 loss to Bethune-Cookman.

Kyle McGowin (SSU) recorded a 0.00 ERA over seven innings, allowed seven hits and struck out three in a 10-0 win over North Carolina Central.

Brent Moore (NCAT) pitched 7.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and struck out four in a 3-1 loss to Bethune-Cookman.

Tyler Murphy (NCCU) hit .600 (3-for-5) with one double and two runs in a 12-8 win over Savannah State.

Ali Simpson (B-CU) earned a 5.40 ERA and struck out seven to go 1-1 on the week for the Wildcats.

Myles Taylor (CSU) allowed one run on two hits, earning a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings of relief to help the Eagles to their first win of the season.

Luke Tendler (NCAT) batted .600 (9-for-15) with one homerun, two doubles, five runs, and six RBI last week for the Aggies.

Alex Welch (UMES) earned a 4.15 ERA allowing two runs on three hits in 4.1 innings of relief for the Eagles.
