Norfolk State junior Ryan Montgomery earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday. Savannah State's Rex Davis was named the Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Uriah Virgo earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Montgomery (3B, 5-11, Jr., 165, Prince George, Va.) batted .462 with six hits in 13 appearances to guide the Spartans to a 3-0 mark last week and extend their win streak to seven. He recorded two doubles and five RBI and defensively added four putouts. Against Coppin State, Montgomery matched a career-high with four hits while hitting .800.
Davis (P, 6-1, Fr., 185, Evans, Ga.) allowed one hit to earn a 0.00 ERA in a 3-0 conference win against North Carolina Central. The freshman struck out six of 25 batters, allowed four walks and no runs in seven innings of action.
Virgo (1B, 6-1, Fr., 215, Powder Springs, Ga.) batted .333 (4-of-12) with two homeruns, one double and four RBI to aid the Tigers to a 2-2 mark last week. Virgo added nine putouts in a defensive effort.
