Delaware State Routs Lincoln (Pa.), 22-1
Delaware State scored 13 runs in the third inning en route to a 22-1 win over Lincoln (Pa.) in the first game of a doubleheader at Soldier Field this afternoon. The Hornets scored seven runs in the second inning to highlight a 20-2 victory in the nightcap.
DSU has won its last three games to improve to 5-4 this season.
In the opener, Delaware State sent 14 batters to the plate in the third. Scott Davis doubled in two runs, while Troy Drummond had a two-run single in the inning. JP Frey also singled in a run, while Joey Babuca produced a run on a sacrifice fly in the third. The Hornets also scored when Ryan Haas was hit by a pitch, while Aaron Nardone and Eddie Sorondo were walked with the bases loaded.
Delaware State opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first two runs of the inning crossed the plate when Haas single was booted in the outfield, allowing Drummond and Cameron Cecil to score. Frey doubled in a run and Sorondo had a run scoring single in the first.
The Hornets closed out the scoring with five runs in the fifth.
Drummond was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two runs batted in, while Sorondo was also 3-for-3 with two RBI. Davis (1-for-2) and Frey (2-for-4) drove in three runs each.
Delaware State starter Chad Adkins pitched five innings to earn the win. Adkins allowed two hits and one run, while striking out four.
In the nightcap, Frey, Darien Percell, DJ Miller and Peter Broehl had three hits each to highlight the Hornets' 19-hit attack.
Frey drove in a season-high four runs, while Miller, Percell and Broehl knocked in two each.
The Hornets trailed 1-0 before exploding for seven runs in the second inning. Broehl had a two-run single, while Babuca triple in a run and Haas had a run-scoring double in the frame.
Frey singled in a run in DSU's four-run fourth and singled in two more in the Hornets' three-run sixth.
Haas, Babuca and Elliott Gardner had two hits each for the Hornets in game two.
Delaware State returns to action with a three-game series at home against NJIT this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon. The series will wrap up with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Soldier Field.

Maine Holds Off Florida A&M, 5-3
Florida A&M's ninth inning rally falls short as the University of Maine held on for a 5-3 win over the Rattlers, here Tuesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
Maine (2-2) finished the game with a game high eight hits as Troy Black finished with a team high two hits to lead the Black Bears.
FAMU (1-7) finished the contest with six hits as Jarryd Reid finished with game high three hits with two of them being doubles.
D.J. (1-0) picked up the win for Maine as he gave up four hits, one earned run and striking out three in four and one-third innings, while Mike Connolly (1) got the save for the Black Bears as he pitched four and two-third innings of relief, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out eight.
Heath Blackburn (0-3) received the loss for the Rattlers as he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and striking out two.
Maine took an early 3-0 after four complete innings of play.
FAMU scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as Reid doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Reid would then score on an Andrew Thomas single back of the middle, cutting the Black Bears lead to 3-1.
The Black Bears would pick up two more runs as they score a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh to increase their lead to 5-1.
Reginald Grant would score the Rattlers first run of the ninth as he scored on a Franklin single, followed by a Reid single up the middle scoring Tyler Lawson, for the 5-3 final.
