UMES? Chaikowsky Earns ABCA All-East Second-Team Honors

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -Maryland Eastern Shore senior designated hitter Bryan Chaikowsky was named to the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association All-East Region Second-Team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Chaikowsky batted .360 in 45 games this season, good for eighth in the MEAC. The 6-foot-2 left-handed hitter scored recorded 59 hits, scored 36 runs, had nine doubles, nine doubles and six home runs.

Chaikowsky is currently leading the NCAA in triples per game (.20), finishing tops in the MEAC in triples.

Chaikowsky was also second in the league with a .634 slugging percentage and eighth with a .446 on-base mark. He also tied for fifth in the conference and was eight with 104 total bases.

Chaikowsky was joined on the second team by starting pitchers Charlie Conorie

(Towson), Kyle Hald (Old Dominion) and Sean Tierney (James Madison), relievers Pat Christensen (La Salle) and Mark Montgomery (Longwood), catcher Kevan Smith (Pittsburgh), first baseman Hunter Ridge (UNC Wilmington), second baseman Scott Davis (Delaware State), third basemen Matt Campbell (UNC Wilmington) and  Kevin Mihalik (Lehigh) and outfielders Andrew Cain (UNC Wilmington), Byron McKoy (Temple) and Danny Poma (Hofstra).

In three seasons at UMES, Chaikowsky hit .343 (149-for-434) over 133 games. He had 88 RBI, 11 home runs with a .562 slugging percentage.
