NORFOLK, Va., May 2, 2011- Delaware State's
Scott Davis earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman's
Patrick Goelz was named the Pitcher of the Week and Norfolk State's
Ryan VanAssche earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Davis (2B, 5-10, Jr., Lake Lehman, Pa.) hit .444 with four RBI and two doubles to aid the Hornets to a 3-2 record last week. Davis tallied seven hits in 13 at-bats and defensively collected 19 putouts and 10 assists.
Goelz (P, 6-3, So., Palm Bay, Fla.) helped extend the Wildcats win streak to seven with a 7-3 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. He had a 0.00 ERA and struck out 11 batters in the victory. Goelz walked one and did not allow any earned runs in his sixth victory of the season.
VanAssche (P, 6-1, Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) collected a win with a 1.00 ERA and three strikeouts against Savannah State. The rookie pitched a complete game allowing only one earned run in nine innings of action.

Cameron Cecil (DSU) was 6-of-19, with five RBI and three doubles, in five games for the Hornets.
Emmanuel Castro (B-CU) aided the Wildcats with five RBI in four wins last week.
Jordan Egan (NSU) struck out a career-high 12 batters with a 3.12 ERA to get the win over Savannah State.
Elliot Gardner (DSU) tossed his second complete game of the season with five strikeouts to earn the 11-1 win against North Carolina A&T.
Scott Garner (B-CU) struck out four and walked on to earn a win with a 1.16 ERA against Maryland Eastern Shore.
James Newsome (UMES) hit .400 with three RBI for the Hawks last week.
Derek Richards (CSU) was 8-of-18 (.444) with three RBI and four runs last week for the Eagles.
Zach Spahn (CSU) struck out 10 batters to earn the win with a 2.25 ERA against Florida A&M.
