The defending MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats recorded their second straight regular season title with an 18-0 mark and earned top seed in the 2011 MEAC Baseball Championship tournament. The tournament begins May 18-21 at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Bethune-Cookman (32-21) will compete for their sixth consecutive MEAC title and 13th overall.
Delaware State (24-24) finished with an 11-7 conference mark to secure the second seed. North Carolina A&T (19-30, 10-8 MEAC) clinched the third seed while Norfolk State (19-27, 9-9) earned the fourth seed.
Maryland Eastern Shore finished regular season with the fifth seed heading into the tournament and the Florida A&M Rattlers secured the six and final position
Only the top six teams qualify to compete for the MEAC tournament title. The winner will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional scheduled for June 3-6. Coppin State (2-16) was eliminated from post season play following its conference finish.
The 2011 MEAC Baseball Championship Tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, with #2 Delaware State facing #5 Maryland Eastern Shore. Bethune-Cookman will matchup against #6 Florida A&M for game two beginning at 2 p.m., while #3 North Carolina A&T will take on #4 Norfolk State in the third game of the day beginning at 6 p.m.
