Bethune-Cookman Baseball to Face Coppin State on ESPNU

The Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats will host the Coppin State University Eagles in a MEAC televised baseball game, Friday, April 22 at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida.  The game will be televised live on ESPNU beginning at 2 p.m. EST.

Five-time defending MEAC Tournament Champion Bethune-Cookman sits atop the conference with a 6-0 mark and 19-16 overall record. Reigning MEAC Player of the Year Peter O'Brien leads the MEAC and is 12th in the nation with 10 home runs. The junior has also recorded 40 RBI in 35 games.

The Eagles under the guidance of first-year head coach Sherman Reed, have won all of their games on the road. Coppin State freshman Zach Spahn and junior Jesse Savage are the team leaders. Spahn has recorded 22 RBI, three home runs and six doubles in 27 appearances. From the mound, the rookie has pitched 41.1 innings and struck out 25 batters. Savage hit .306 from the plate and tallied 16 RBI, one home run, two triples and seven doubles during the 2011 campaign.

Bethune-Cookman leads the all-time series against the Eagles 18-4. In their last meeting, The Wildcats swept the series 3-0. Coppin State's last victory against the Wildcats was 10-9 defeat on April 9, 2005.

The 2011 MEAC Baseball Championship is slated for May 18-21 at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark, 105 E. Orange Ave, in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Only the top six teams in the conference will compete in the double elimination tournament.
