B-CU's Perez Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 18th Round of MLB Draft
Bethune-Cookman junior Juan Perez was been selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 18th round (pick No. 560) during the second day of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The right handed pitcher notched 10 saves in 23 appearances (5.40 ERA) in 33.1 innings for the Wildcats.
In 176 appearances at the plate this season, Perez hit .347 with 61 hits, one home run, one triple, 13 doubles and 34 RBI. He tallied 68 putouts and 111 assists while covering second base.
Perez earned All-MEAC First Team honors as a relief pitcher and Second Team accolades as an infielder this season.
FAMU's Shaw Taken By Milwaukee Brewers In 41st Round
Florida A&M Athletics is happy announce that Derrick Shaw has been drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 41st round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.
Shaw, a 6-0 sophomore infielder / outfielder from Orlando, Fla., was a 1,239 selection overall in the draft. He finished the season with 67 hits in 163 at-bats for a .411 batting average, scoring 45 runs, while driving in 36 runs. He had 20 hit for extra bases in 11 doubles, three triples and six homers.
In addition, Shaw was a two-time First Team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selection (2009, 2010).
