MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

Bethune-Cookman senior outfielder Justin Hoyte earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Tuesday. North Carolina A&T's Kelvin Freeman earned Rookie of the Week accolades, while teammate Brent Moore was named Pitcher of the Week.

Hoyte (OF, 5-10, Sr., Orlando, Florida) batted .571 with eight hits during 14 at-bat appearances to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 mark.  He recorded two home runs, three doubles and nine RBI in a series sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Freeman (OF, 6-0, Fr., Carneys Point, New Jersey) hit .600 to aid the Aggies to a 3-1 mark. Freeman recorded nine hits with one home run, one double, and four RBI.  The first baseman also posted 34 putouts during the four-game stretch.

Moore (P, 6-3, Fr., Reidsville, North Carolina) earned the win for the Aggies against Delaware State with a 0.00 ERA in six innings last week. Moore struck out four of the 24 batters he faced and allowed only two hits and three walks in the victory.

Other Top Performers:

Shaquille Bagwell (UMES) hit .417 (5-for-12) for the Hawks last week.

Tony Gatto (DSU) hit .538 with seven hits, one home run, and two RBI in four games for the Hornets.

Gabriel Hernandez (B-CU) earned the win with a 0.00 ERA in a victory over Maryland E. Shore. Hernandez allowed one run and struck out five of the 25 batters he faced.

Tre-von Johnson (UMES) tallied two triples, one double and one RBI in 13 plate appearances for the Hawks.

Chris Joyce (NSU) batted .450 with two doubles and four RBI to aid the Spartans to a 2-3 mark.

Chris Kashangaki (CSU) was 11-for-19 (.579) with one triple and six RBI in four games for the Eagles. 

Marquis Riley (NCAT) aided the Aggies to a 3-1 week with seven hits, two home runs and seven RBI in 14 plate appearances.

Sammy Serafine (NSU) hit .538 with two doubles and three RBI. He also posted 14 putouts and 15 assists from second base.

Derrick Shaw (FAMU) led the Rattlers to a 2-1 mark with two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI.
