Southern University scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Florida A&M Rattlers, 11-10 Thursday afternoon at Lee-Hines Field.
FAMU (7-24-1) and SU (15-14) both finished with 13 hits apiece.
The Rattlers had five players to finish with two hits each, while the Jaguars were led by Kyle Smith with three hits.
Cody Hall (2-0) picked up the win for SU as he gave up two hits and struck out one in one inning of relief.
Derrick Shaw (0-1) received the loss for FAMU in his first appearance on the mound, allowing 13 hits, 10 earned runs and striking out one in eight and one-third innings of work.
FAMU grabbed the 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Darryl Evans scored on a Jared Jeffries triple.
The Rattlers added to their lead in the top of the second inning as FAMU picked up four runs on an Evans inside the park grand slam, giving the Rattlers a 5-0 lead.
Ozzie Lamis scored the Jaguars first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as he scored on a Rattler infielder's error, cutting FAMU's lead 5-1.
Darius Washington gave the Rattlers a 6-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning as he scored on a Reginald Grant sacrifice fly to center field.
Thomas Willis cut FAMU's lead to 6-2 as he scored on a Michael Gonzalez triple in the bottom of the fourth inning.
FAMU made the score 8-2 in the top of the fifth inning as Derrick Shaw scored on an SU infielder's errors, followed by a Darius Washington double to centerfield scoring Oscar Santalo.
The Rattlers put two more runs on the board to take a 10-2 as Jeffries scored on a Santalo sacrifice bunt. Then Shaw would score on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning.
SU picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh as both Elliott Armstrong and Gonzales scored on a FAMU infielder's error, making the score 10-4.
Gonzalez would on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, cutting the Rattlers lead to 10-5.
SU would score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the score 10-9. Then Armstrong would hit a two-run walk-off homer to give the Jaguars the victory.
FAMU will return to action against Maryland Eastern Shore in a three-game MEAC matchup, beginning on Saturday, April 24 in a doubleheader and will conclude on Sunday, April 25 in a 1 p.m. start both days.
