Florida A&M snapped their eight game losing streak as they defeated Alabama State 9-1, Wednesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
FAMU (7-19-1) finished the game with 10 hits, while ASU (10-11) tallied five.
The Rattlers were led by Derrick Shaw and Jimmie Terrell, who finished with two hits each, Drew Quinney led the Hornets with two hits.
Steven Dollar (3-3) picked up the win for FAMU as he pitched nine scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven.
Devin Dominguez (1-2) received the loss for ASU as he gave up 10 hits, four earned runs and striking out seven in eight innings.
The Rattlers offense came alive early as they took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as they score three runs on three hits with Daniel Lee scoring on a Shaw double down the left field line. Shaw would then score on a Justin Abney single, followed by an Oscar Santalo triple scoring Abney.
FAMU added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Shaw scored on a Justin Abney sacrifice fly to centerfield, followed by a Sheplak single scoring Terrell. Santalo would then score as Darius Washington grounded out to the shortstop, followed by an Elliott Bonner single scoring Sheplak, giving the Rattlers a 7-0 lead.
Quinney scored the Hornets only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning as he scored on Adrian Snell ground out to the second baseman.
FAMU plated two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Shaw scored on a Terrell double. Then Terrell would score as Santalo grounded out to the first baseman, for the 9-1 win.
Up next for the Rattlers will be Delaware State as they return to MEAC play, beginning on Saturday, April 17 in a doubleheader and a single game on Sunday, April 18 in a 1 p.m., start both days.
