Washington State (3-0) scored four runs in the first inning and went on to a 10-4 win Friday afternoon in game two of the Texas Tech University Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic.
The Cougars of the Pac Ten Conference scored four in the first, and single runs in the second and fourth innings, then tallied two more in the fifth off B-CU's Ali Simpson.
WSU scored eight runs (six earned) off Simpson (0-1) who pitched 4- innings, striking out four and walking three in the game. Chris Anselmo 2 innings and Andrew Tilka 2.1 innings, and Joey Sharkey 0.2 innings, pitched well in relief for the Wildcats
B-CU's Peter O'Brien hit a solo home run to left center in the second inning and the sophomore catcher was 2-3 versus WSU. Juan Perez was 3-4 and DJ Leonard 2-3, in the game played in chilly, windy conditions in West Texas.
The Wildcats out-hit the Cougars 13-12 in the contest. B-CU scored in the eighth on singles by Brandon Turner, Juan Perez and a run-scoring single by Matt Wright (his team-leading 12th RBI of the year). Emmanuel Castro hit a solo home run in the 9th inning to make the final count 10-4.
Bethune-Cookman (1-5) plays two games on Saturday in the Texas Tech Classic - Noon against Washington State and 4 p.m. against the host Red Raiders of Texas Tech.
