Texas Tech Tops Bethune-Cookman, 12-8

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 12-8 win Thursday over Bethune-Cookman (1-4) in the opening game of TTU's Memorial Baseball Tournament.

Texas Tech out hit the Wildcats 15-11 in the game and scored in six of eight innings. TTU led 10-3 after 6 innings and RHP Chad Bettis gained the pitching win throwing 7 innings of 8-hit ball.

B-CU's junior outfielder Matt Wright continued his solid hitting going 3-4 with 4 RBI and he is the Wildcat RBI leader through 5 games with 11 in 2010. Juan Perez was 2-4 with 3 runs scored and Alejandro Sanchez was 2-4 with as triple and 2 runs scored to lead the 11 hit offensive attack.

Freshman RHP Patrick Goelz was the B-CU starter and loser in the game pitching 2.2 innings and allowing 6 earned runs and 8 Texas Tech hits. Joseph Munoz, Jordan Dailey, Justin Dahl, and Gabriel Hernandez all came in to pitch in relief for Bethune-Cookman.

The Wildcats next play Washington State University on Friday at Noon (CST). B-CU plays two games on Saturday with single games against WSU and Texas Tech.  Sophomore LHP Ali Simpson will take the mound on Friday vs. Washington State.
