Aggies Open Season With A Win Over Ohio, 6-2
ELON - North Carolina A&T opened the 2010 season on a positive note by defeating the Ohio Bobcats 6-2 on the first day of the Elon Classic at Latham Park.
Senior George Hines led the Aggies by going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Xavier Macklin added a home run for the Aggies on Opening Day. Sophomore Esterlin Paulino pitched a complete-game four-hitter. Paulino struck out eight and walked just two batters.
The Aggies got off to a fast start on Friday. Hines opened and freshman Andre McKoy opened the game with back-to-back singles. Macklin followed with a walk to load the bases. Nick Rogers earned his first RBI of the season by grounding out to second base to score Hines.
Macklin opened the fifth inning with a solo home run to give the Aggies a 5-2 lead. It would be enough for Paulino. Paulino only gave up one hit after the fifth inning to earn the seventh victory of his young career.
The Aggies will return to action Saturday afternoon when they play Towson at 4 in the Elon Classic.

Richmond Downs Rattlers, 23-1
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb 19.) - The University of Richmond used a ten run second inning to propel them to a 23-1 win over the Florida A&M in their first day of the North Florida Classic Tournament, Friday afternoon at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium.
FAMU (0-1) tallied six hits with both Toby Adeyemi and Mykel finishing with two hits each.
Richmond (1-0) finished with 11 hits with Chris Cowell, Bryan Conway, and Phil Ruzbarsky, all finished with two hits each.
Matt Zielinski (1-0) picked up the win for the Spiders as he gave up five hits, one earned runs and striking five in six innings of work, while Miguel Parga (0-1) took the loss for the Rattlers, as he gave up five hits, five earned runs and striking out one in one and two-third innings of work.
FAMU would score their only run of the game on a Benson homer in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 17-1.
Richmond plated four more runs in the top of the eighth and two more runs in the top of the ninth for the 23-1 win.

UMES Falls In Season Opener, 24-0
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Tadd Bower went 4-for-5 with a home run and a triple and Logan Billbrough allowed one hit over six innings as the William and Mary baseball team shutout Maryland Eastern Shore, 24-0, at Plumeri Park in the season opener for both teams Friday.
Bower scored three runs and drove in five more and Billbrough faced just four batters over the minimum to earn the victory.
Junior right fielder Bryan Chaikowsky laced a double to center in the fourth inning and freshman designated hitter Donnie Haines tripled to right field in the for the Hawks only two hits.
William and Mary scored runs in every inning except the sixth with the help of 20 hits and four UMES errors.
The Hawks surrendered at least 20 runs for the first time since East Tennessee State topped UMES, 29-2 and 23-6, on May 9-10, 2008.

Villanova Tops Norfolk State, 13-2
Matt Szczur went 4-for-6 with four RBI and Villanova right hander Brian Streilein fanned 12 hitters in 6.2 scoreless innings as Villanova topped Norfolk State 13-2 on Friday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams at Marty L. Miller Field.
Szczur was one of three Wildcats with multiple hits. Adam Nelson also had four hits (4-for-5) while knocking in three runs, and Tyler Sciacca was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
After two scoreless innings, Villanova struck first in the top of the third inning. Szczur got it started with a one-out single. Spartan starting pitcher Jason Barker then walked the next three hitters to force in Szczur with the game's first run.

B-CU Wildcats Drop Season Opener 18-4 To Cal State Northridge
B-CU led 4-0 after three innings on two-run homers by Peter O'Brien and Matt Wright and the Wildcats led 4-3 through 5 innings, however the Matadors of Cal State Northridge scored nine runs in the 6th inning and five more in the seventh to win going away - 18-4 in the opening game of the MLB Urban Classic in California.
B-CU starter, sophomore lefty Ali Simpson registered a no-decision pitching 4.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, striking out 3 and walking 5. Simpson and relievers Roman Lancara, Patrick Goelz, and Joseph Munoz got through 5 innings with a 4-3 lead. In the CSUN sixth, nine runs, 5 hits and 3 costly B-CU errors made the game 12-4. Munoz took the loss in relief. Freshman Gabriel Hernandez pitched 1 inning and senior Andrew Tilka threw 1.1 innings to finish up the ball game.

Delaware State Falls to Navy, 13-3
Durham, N.C. (Feb. 19, 2010) - Michael Speciale drove in five runs, while three players knocked in two runs each to lead Navy to a 13-3 college baseball win over Delaware State in the North Carolina Central Eagle Classic at the Durham Athletic Park in the season opener for both teams this afternoon.
Navy scored five runs in the top of the second and one in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Delaware State answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, one scoring on a fielder's choice and the other on a throwing error.
The Midshipmen committed four errors in the contest, while the Hornets were error-free.
Ben Nelson (1-0) pitched 4.2 innings of shutout relief to pick up the win for Navy. Jordon Elliot (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Hornets, although he struck out five batters in three innings.
