For the second time this week, Bethune-Cookman catcher Peter O'Brien received national recognition, as he was selected, Friday, to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American team. Earlier in the week, the junior from Miami Garden's Fla. was named to the 11th annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason All-America team.
Last season, O'Brien led the Wildcats and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in home runs, and was 25th nationally with 19. He also led the Wildcats in hits and the conference in slugging percentage. O'Brien was named the 2010 MEAC Player of the Year, in addition to his spot on the All-MEAC first team. Following the season, O'Brien became a part of Collegiate Team USA, where he led the team in home runs and was on the cover of Baseball America.
"We're very proud and honored that Peter got the recognition that I think he earned last year," said Bethune-Cookman Head Coach Mervyl Melendez. "Now he's got to work toward having the same honor at the end of the year. He's very deserving of being a pre-season All-or American, and we're looking for him to have another terrific season for us, and help our team achieve new heights."
This is the second career honor for O'Brien from Baseball America, as he was named a Freshman All-American (along with pitcher Ali Simpson) in 2009.
