Auburn’s Joseph Sanders hit his 14th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning to put the Tigers (22-10) up 2-1. Auburn scored a single run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth off B-CU starter Joseph Munoz (2-4). The Tigers have now hit an SEC-leading 69 home runs through 32 games this season. Hunter Morris hit his eighth home run of the year to lead off the fifth inning and give Auburn a 4-1 lead.
The Wildcats (15-17) scored the first run of the game on a home run to left center in the second inning by Ryan Durrence. He also hit his team-leading fifth home run of the year in the eighth inning, a two-run blast to make the score 5-3.
B-CU loaded the bases with two outs later in the eighth and did not score following Durrence’s second home run to keep the score at 5-3.
Munoz threw four innings, allowing six hits, four runs, walking three and striking out three.Relievers Edgar Serra and Matt Crane came into pitch in the fifth inning.
Lefty Roman Lancara was effective in relief pitching the sixth and seventh innings. Senior reliever Concepcion Guzman gave up one run in the Auburn eighth to make the final score 6-3.
The Wildcats will continue on the road this weekend in MEAC Conference play at Norfolk State University, playing two games Saturday and one game Sunday, 1 p.m. starts both days at NSU.
