MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

Norfolk State’s Jerrod Farley earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Jordan Elliott was named the Pitcher of the Week, while North Carolina A&T’s Marquis Riley earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

 

Farley (OF, 6-1, Sr., Chester, Virginia) guided the Spartans to a 3-1 non-conference mark last week. He posted a .529 average with nine hits on 17 attempts. Farley collected two home runs in a 6-5 loss to VMI.  Against Savannah State, he recorded the game winning walk-off RBI single. For the week, Farley recorded two home runs, one triple, one double and 10 RBI.

 

Elliott (P, 6-3, Fr., Milford, Delaware) earned his first career-victory in a win against Delaware last week. Elliott tallied a 0.00 ERA, struck out five batters, and allowed only two hits in six innings.

 

Riley (2B, 5-11, Fr., Efland, North Carolina) hit .471 (8-for-17) with one double and one RBI for the Aggies last week. He recorded two stolen bases and added 13 putouts and 15 assists with no errors from the second base position. This is the second consecutive week that Riley has earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Chase Davenport (NSU) went 1-1 last week for the Spartans, with four strikeouts,  in 7.1 innings.

 

Cyril Daniel (NCAT) tallied two home runs, one double and six RBI to aid the Aggies last week.

 

Pat Hercinger (UMES) posted five hits and three RBI for the Hawks.

 

Jared Jeffries (FAMU) hit .500 (14-for-28) to lead the Rattlers to a 5-1 mark last week along with one triple, two doubles and one RBI.

 

Patrick Jones (B-CU) batted .571 with two RBI to aid the Wildcats to a 3-1 mark.

 

Joseph Munoz (B-CU) recorded a 0.00 ERA with four strikeouts to pick up the win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

 

Dan Perkins (DSU) struck out six batters and tallied a 2.16 ERA in a win over the North Carolina A&T Aggies.

 

Derrick Shaw (FAMU) tallied one home run, four doubles and 11 RBI to aid the Rattlers to a 5-1 mark last week.

 

Ali Simpson (B-CU) pitched six innings and struck out five to earn the win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

 

Ben Vasko (UMES) hit .500 with one double and three RBI for the Hawks last week.

 

Jervonta’ Wright (UMES) pitched four scoreless innings against Navy.
