For the second consecutive game Maryland Eastern Shore battled back from a big deficit early to give Navy a run for its money.
The result was the same Thursday, though, as the Hawks fell, 10-7, to the Midshipmen at Hawks Stadium.
The Hawks trailed, 10-2, after three-and-a-half innings and make things interesting with four run in the seventh to really place pressure on the Mids.
Navy's Luke Roberts, was able to nail down the victory, throwing the final 2 .1 innings, allowing one hit and two walks for his first save of the season.
The win for Navy (17-23-1) gives it a sweep of the home-and-home series which began with a 10-6 victory Tuesday in Annapolis, Md. The loss for UMES (11-32) is its sixth in seven games.
Sophomore right fielder Bryan Chaikowsky paced the Hawks' offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman catcher Ben Vasko and sophomore shortstop Remo Orsini also had three hits each for the hosts.
Five Navy players had two hits apiece led by Matt Curley who was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI out of the second spot in the batting order. Alec Thomas went five innings to pick up his first win on the mound this season. Thomas scattered eight hits, surrendering three runs and a walk, while striking out four.
Senior left-handed starter Brian White threw 3.1 innings took the loss to drop to 0-6. He allowed all 10 runs on nine hits and three walks. He struck out one.
Navy held a 4-0 advantage by the top of the second inning. Josh Moore sent a double to right with runners on second and third and one out to go up, 2-0. After a walk, Mike Guadagnini singled through the left side to score Moore. Curley then found room in right-center field for an RBI single, scoring Nick Driscoll.
The Hawks picked up a run in the bottom of the inning when Vasko singled through the right side to send Chaikowsky home from second. Chaikowsky singled and moved along with a sacrifice bunt from Franklin Armstrong.
The Midshipmen tallied six runs in the fourth in part due to three UMES errors. Back-to-back singles to start the inning put runners on first and second. Guadagnini followed and reached on a fielding miscue by Pat Hercinger.
Curley unloaded a base hit to left and advanced to second on a throwing error by Armstrong,
Driscoll and Moore scored on the play to make it 6-1.
After a popup, Michael Speciale doubled to right for an 8-1 margin. The Mids added two more in the frame on a Steven Soares RBI single and failed pickoff attempt and error by White which brought Jonathan Berkowitz in.
Jorge Pichardo shaved the deficit to eight with a sacrifice fly to left, plating Armstrong. Armstrong reached on a Moore error at third and moved to third base on another Vasko hit back through the middle.
The Hawks made it 10-3 when Chaikowsky singled through the right side to score Orsini before the right fielder was tagged out advancing to second.
Navy's third pitcher of the day came in to start the seventh and lasted just two thirds of an inning.
Phil Vaughn drew a leadoff walk and stole his team-leading 20th base, coming around on an Orsini single.
After a flyout and walk Chaikowsky doubled to right to score Orsini and followed by a two-RBI double to left center by Vasko.
That was as close as UMES got as Roberts put out the fire.
The Hawks host Bethune-Cookman in their final MEAC series of the season this weekend starting Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
