MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

North Carolina A&T outfielder Xavier Macklin earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Tuesday. Delaware State’s Dan Perkins was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman’s Ali Simpson earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

 

Macklin (OF, 6-1, Fr., Rocky Mount, North Carolina) batted .500 (11-of-22) last week for the Aggies. During a three-game conference series against Maryland Eastern Shore, he hit .634 against the Hawks and posted 10 RBI. For the week, Macklin notched one homer and three doubles.  He also collected 12 putouts and one stolen base.

 

Perkins (P, 6-4, Sr., Newark, Delaware) recorded 10 strikeouts with a 0.00 ERA in a win against Florida A&M.  In his third complete game of the season, Perkins pitched nine innings and allowed five hits while facing 32 batters. This is the fourth straight week that Perkins has earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.

 

Simpson (P, 6-2, Fr., Campbell River, British Columbia) pitched seven scoreless innings with a 0.00 ERA to lead the Wildcats to a 2-0 victory and three game series sweep of Norfolk State. Simpson allowed just three hits and one walk and struck out six in the victory.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Elliott Alston (UMES) tallied two doubles and four RBI in five games for the Hawks.

 

Ross Babineaux (DSU) hit .444 (4-of-9) with two runs and five RBI to aid the Hornets to a 2-1 mark against Florida A&M.

 

Hiram Burgos (B-CU) picked up the win against Norfolk State with 11 strikeouts in eight innings eight innings for the Wildcats.

 

Josh Dunham (UMES) recorded one triple and two RBI with seven putouts and 11 assists to aid the Hawks to a 2-3 mark last week.

 

Russel Deutschmann (UMES) struck out four batters against North Carolina A&T  and earned his first win of the season with a 0.00 ERA for the Hawks last week.

 

Timothy Schalch (FAMU) tallied six hits and three RBI and collected 12 putouts and 13 assists for the Rattlers.

 

Derrick Shaw (FAMU) hit .571 (4-of-7) with one double and two RBI in two games for the Rattlers last week.

 

Eric Thomas (B-CU) posted an ERA of 0.00 with nine strikeouts in seven innings to pick up a win over Norfolk State for the Wildcats.
