MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

Delaware State  second baseman Justin Bittner earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Tuesday. Teammate Dan Perkins was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bryan Chaikowsky earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

 

Bittner (2B/RHP, 6-0, Sr., Newark, Delaware) batted .450 with nine hits and three runs. He posted three home runs, two doubles and six RBI to help the Hornets to a 3-2 record last week.  During a four-game series against Wagner, Bittner recorded six hits in 12 appearances at the plate.  Bittner also took the mound for the Hornets and struck out four batters.

 

Perkins (P, 6-4, Sr., Newark, Delaware) recorded a 1-0 record and 0.90 ERA in two appearances for the Hornets last week. Against LaSalle, Perkins did not allow any runs during one inning of relief.  In the victory over Wagner, he pitched a complete game and struck out a career-high seven batters. For the week, the senior walked four batters out of the 41 he faced and held LaSalle and Wagner to a .167 batting average.

 

Chaikowsky (DH/OF, 6-2, So., Bethlehem, Pa.) batted .750 in 12 at bat appearances to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 mark, including a 3-0 record in conference play. Chaikowsky recorded one triple, three doubles, eight RBI and nine hits. The designated hitter tallied three stolen bases and walked three times.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

CJ Beatty (NCAT) posted one home run, one triple, three doubles and four RBI for the Aggies last week.

 

Jermaine Berry (NSU) batted .667 and recorded two RBI in three appearances at bat in a loss to North Carolina A&T.

 

Quinn Bright (NSU) struck out five batters out of 33 in a win over North Carolina A&T.

 

Lonnel Bush (CSU) posted one triple and one RBI while batting .500 in a loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

 

Abe Eubank (DSU) went 7-of-13 at the plate and tallied two doubles and three RBI in four games for the Hornets.

 

Adam Gordon (FAMU) walked four and struck out five in 3.1 innings in a victory over Bethune-Cookman.

 

Xavier Macklin (NCAT) tallied 10 putouts, four stolen bases, four doubles and six RBI in six games for the Aggies last week.

 

Alejandro Sanchez (B-CU) tallied two doubles and three RBI in five games for the Wildcats last week.

 

Tim Schalch (FAMU) batted a .416 (3-for-5)  to aid the Rattlers in their series against Bethune-Cookman.

 

Eric Thomas (B-CU) posted a win against Florida A&M after striking out three of the 32 batters he faced.

 

Phil Vaughn (UMES) recorded two triples and five RBI with three stolen bases to aid the Hawks to a 3-2 mark last week.

 

Harry Williams (CSU) batted .545 and was 6-for-11 while posting one double and three RBI.

 

Matt Witte (UMES) threw a complete game shutout in a 12-0 conference win over Coppin State.
