North Carolina A&T centerfielder C.J. Beatty and Norfolk State catcher Brad Stephenson earned Co-MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Thursday. Delaware State’s Josh Schmidt was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Brandon Hairston earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Beatty (CF, 5-10, So., Winston-Salem, N.C.) batted .393 last week with 11 hits and eight runs. He posted a home run, a triple, two doubles and eight RBI to help the Aggies to a 4-4 record including a 4-2 mark in MEAC play. During a three-game sweep of Norfolk State, Beatty recorded six hits in 11 appearances at the plate. In addition to stealing one base, he also tallied 11 putouts.

Stephenson (C, 6-0, Jr., Chesapeake, Virginia) recorded a career-high five RBI along with a triple and a double in a 10-5 win over Old Dominion. Stephenson batted .381 for the week and added four additional doubles and five RBI to help the Spartans to a 3-3 mark. He posted 29 putouts and added four assists from behind home plate. |
Schmidt (P, 5-10, Sr., Middletown, Delaware) struck out a career-high 10 batters against the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks while giving up two runs and allowing five hits. The senior walked one batter out of the 28 he faced and recorded an ERA of 1.26.

Hairston (1B, 5-11, Fr., North Garden, Virginia) batted .333 with one double, four RBI and four hits in 12 appearances at the plate. The first baseman tallied 27 putouts and with three assists to help the Spartans to a 3-3 week. |

Justin Bittner (DSU) recorded two home runs and tallied nine RBI for the Hornets in five games played.
Tim Johnson (NCAT) struck out 19 of 73 batters to improve to 4-1 with victories over Norfolk State and Florida A&M.
Jose’ Lozada (B-CU) broke the school record for triples in a single game with three in a non-conference win over Savannah State.
Remo Orsini (UMES) posted one double and one RBI with two stolen bases in six appearances at the plate in an 11-7 win over Coppin State.
Jorge Pichardo (UMES) recorded five doubles and four RBI to help the Hawks to a 5-4 record including a 4-2 conference mark.
Mike Roberts (UMES) struck out six of 32 batters in eight innings in a win over Delaware State.
Eric Thomas (B-CU) allowed one hit in six innings against Savannah State to improve to 4-0 on the season.
