Florida A&M outfielder Darryl Evans earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Hiram Burgos was named Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, while Coppin State’s Patrick Regalado earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Evans (OF, 5-10, So., Merillville, Ind) hit for the cycle and was a perfect (4-of-4) from the plate in game two of a doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore. Evans recorded a single, a double, a triple, and a homerun along with a stolen base in the 9-7 victory. For the week, he was 11-for-22 (.500) at the plate and posted four runs, three doubles, one triple, one home run, and six RBI to lead his team to a 3-2 mark. |
Regalado (C/INF, 5-10, Fr., Miami, Fla.) batted .438 (7-for-16) and recorded one home run, two doubles and three RBI in five games for the Eagles. He also posted three assists and 19 putouts.

Burgos (P, 5-11, Jr., Cayey, Puerto Rico) allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out four batters in five innings for the Wildcats. Burgos recorded a 1.80 ERA and did not allow a walk for the second week in a row. |
Other Top Performers:
Mark Brooks (B-CU) tallied a .538 batting average with one home run, two doubles and five RBI for the Wildcats.
Russell Deutschmann (UMES) batted .750 (3-for-4) and recorded one RBI against Florida A&M.
Jamie Friel (DSU) hit two home runs and seven RBI to help his team to a 3-2 record last week.
Joe McIntyre (NCAT) went 9-of-22 (.409) with four doubles and six RBI in five games for the Aggies.
