Rattlers Nip Albany State, 5-2

Florida A&M won their second game in a row as they defeated Albany State 5-2, Thursday afternoon at Golden Rams Park.

FAMU (4-12) punched out seven hits as Darryl Evans went a perfect three-for-three from the plate, while scoring two runs.

Albany State (25-11) also finished with send hits with De’Marcus Price leading the way with two hits.

Anthony Espin (2-3) got the win for the Rattlers, giving up seven hits, one earned run and striking out four in nine innings of work, while Larry Johnson (4-2) took the loss for the Golden Rams, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and striking out four in nine innings of work.

A Tim Jones homer, gave FAMU an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

The Rattlers increased their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning, when Chris Justin scored on a wild pitch.

A B.J. Stewart RBI single scoring Roger Jones, cut the FAMU’s lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

FAMU built their lead to 4-1, scoring on a Jared Jeffries RBI single scoring Chris Justin in the top of the fifth and on a Jared Grace RBI single scoring .Evans in the top of the sixth inning.

ASU scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Deontate Hahn RBI single scoring Stewart, cutting FAMU’s lead to 4-2.

Grace would score the Rattlers final run of the game on a Justin RBI sac bunt in the top of the eighth inning, for the 5-2 final.

FAMU will return to action against North Carolina A&T in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 and a single game on Sunday March 30 in Greensboro, N.C., at 1 p.m. both days.
