Rattlers Fall To Alabama State 11-10

Florida A&M scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, only to fall short in a 11-10 loss to Alabama State Tuesday afternoon at the Moore-Kittles Field.

FAMU (2-12) collected six hits with both Roland Chandler and Tim Jones finishing with two hits apiece.

ASU ( 6-7) finished with seven hits with both Alexandria Griggs and James Jourdon garnering two hits each.

Artist Patton (0-1) took the loss for the Rattlers, giving up five earned runs and striking out four in five innings of work.

Marquise Hogue (2-1), who held the Rattlers hitless for six innings, got the win for the Hornets giving up two hits, two earned runs and striking out two in seven innings of work.

ASU jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as Darrion Pedro scoring on a Griggs RBI grounder, followed by a James Jourdon RBI single scoring Christopher Davis, giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

The Hornets increased their lead in the in top of the second inning as they picked up a run as Breon Landers stole home, making the score 3-0.

A Griggs two run single scored both Davis and Landers in the top of the fourth increasing the ASU lead to 5-0.

The Hornets lead grew to 9-0 over the Rattlers scoring one run in the top of the fifth and three runs in the top of the sixth.

FAMU got on the board in the bottom of the seventh on a Jared Grace sacrifice fly to right field scoring Jared Jeffries. Then Roland Chandler would score on an ASU infielder’s error, cutting the Hornets lead to 9-2.

ASU would score two more runs in the top of the eighth on a Shamsud-Din Furquan RBI walk scoring Fiallo Jiovanni, followed by a Ronald James RBI single scoring Jourdon, increasing the Hornets lead to 11-2.

A Chandler RBI single scoring Corey McFadden, followed by a Chris Justin two-run single scoring both Chandler and Tim Jones in the bottom of the eighth, cut the Hornets’ lead to 11-5

FAMU scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth, aided by an ASU infielder’s error scoring both Jeffries and Jones.

The Rattlers will be back in action Wednesday against Albany State at Moore-Kttiles Field in a 3 p.m. start.
