The Hornets dropped the second game of a two game series against Long Island 13-4 this afternoon at Soldier Field. The loss brings their record to 3-15 while the Blackbirds improve to 5-12.
Just one day after pounding 20 runs against Long Island, the Hornets mustered up just four runs on seven hits. The Blackbirds scored at least one run in all but the seventh inning. The Hornets committed seven errors on the day.
Couri Benz (1-2) was the winning pitcher for the Blackbirds. He went seven innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. Eric Kinkle pitched two innings of scoreless baseball.
The losing pitcher for the Hornets was David Langton (1-5), who pitched five innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits. Mike Ingram pitched two innings of relief where he gave up one run on one hit. Chase Kornemann gave up one run and one hit in one inning. Ryne Scheiwe pitched the top of the ninth inning. He gave up four runs on two hits.
Dan Pirillo and James Jones led the Blackbirds offense. Pirillo was 3-for-5 with one run and four RBI’s. Jones was 2-for-6 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 2 homeruns.
Troy Drummond led the Hornets on offense, going 1-for-2 with three RBI’s and one walk.
The Hornets return to play on Tuesday, March 25 at home against Canisius beginning at 2:30p.m.
