MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors

North Carolina A&T third baseman Charlie Gamble earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Norfolk State’s Luke Foss was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Florida A&M’s Darryl Evans earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Gamble (3B, 6-6, Sr., Pleasant Garden, N.C.) batted .583 last week with four hits and three runs scored in nine appearances at the plate. He posted a home run and two RBI to cap a three-game stretch against non-conference opponent Jackson State. In addition to stealing a base, Gamble recorded 16 putouts and two assists in the Aggies three wins.

Foss (P, 6-0, Sr., Norfolk, Va.) picked up his 10th win of the season, allowing only one run in seven innings against Savannah State. The right hander struck out a career-high eight batters against the Tigers, giving up only five hits, to post a low 1.29 ERA. He also struck out the only batter he faced in a relief effort against Old Dominion.

Evans (OF, 5-10, Fr., Merrillville, Ind.) drove in the winning runs for FAMU in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Florida International in game one of the doubleheader outing. He finished 4-for-8 for the week with two stolen bases and one RBI.


Other Top Performers:

Lyall Foran (NSU) finished the week with a .600 batting average and led the Spartans to a win over Savannah State with a two-run homer in game one of a doubleheader.

Joseph Gautier (BCU) picked up a win against Florida Atlantic, giving up only one run and striking out three, to record his third victory in a row for the Wildcats.

John Primus (NCAT) pitched 8.2 innings with a 1.10 ERA, striking out eight batters and allowing one run.

Angel Negron (BCU) was 3-for-4 (.750) with one RBI to lead the Wildcats to a victory over Florida Atlantic.
