Bethune-Cookman University outfielder Angel Mercado earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Teammate Francisco Rodriguez was named Pitcher of the Week, while Florida A&M outfielder Darryl Evans earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Mercado (OF, 5-11, Sr., Barranquitas, Puerto Rico) batted .750 for the week against Maryland Eastern Shore and was 6-for-8 at the plate including a home run, one triple and six RBIs. Mercado knocked in six runs and was 5-for-5 in the first two games against the Hawks. He also stole three bases and added three putouts during the week.
Rodriguez (P, 6-1, Sr., Barcelona, Venezuela) struck out four and allowed five hits and no earned runs in seven innings of play in a shutout against Maryland Eastern Shore. It was his second shutout of the year and the win improved his record to 7-3 on the season.
Evans (OF, 5-10, Fr., Merrillville, Ind.) was 9-for-12 at the plate to help the Rattlers to a 3-0 mark against Coppin State last week. Evans tallied a .750 batting average and recorded two triples, two doubles and eight RBIs. In the second game of the three-game series, he was 4-for-4 from the plate and posted five RBIs.

Orlando Bacon (BCU) was 1-for-1 at the plate and tallied a RBI against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Justin Bittner (DSU) recorded two homeruns and nine RBIs to help DSU to a 3-2 mark last week.
Elvin Millan, Jr. (FAMU) posted one homerun, three doubles and four RBIs in a 3-0 sweep of Coppin State last week.
Tim Schalch (FAMU) struck out a career-high 14 batters to earn the victory, in a win over Coppin State.
Juan Serrano (NSU) recorded a home run, a double and a RBI in a doubleheader against Longwood.
