Norfolk, VA -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has officially partnered with legendary sports journalist Steve Wyche and Grammy-nominated recording artist Montell Jordan for the inaugural MEAC Foundation Sneaker Ball, taking place Friday, May 22, 2026, at 7 p.m. at The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center.

Wyche will serve as the official host for the evening, while Jordan will headline the event as the featured entertainer.

Wyche, a graduate of Howard University, brings more than 20 years of NFL coverage and seven years covering the NBA to his role as a trusted journalist and broadcaster. Throughout his career, he has served as a studio analyst, sideline reporter, play-by-play commentator, color analyst, podcaster, and special-assignment reporter. Wyche has covered some of the most impactful stories in modern sports history, including Michael Jordan’s return to basketball with the Washington Wizards and Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest. In addition to his national work, Wyche remains deeply connected to HBCU athletics, serving as the lead play-by-play voice for the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic and the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, while also appearing as a play-by-play and color analyst for Black college football coverage on NFL Network and HBCUGo.

Jordan, best known for his iconic hit “This Is How We Do It,” is one of the defining voices of 1990s R&B with a career that includes seven studio albums, fourteen singles, and more than 10 million records sold worldwide. A Grammy-nominated artist from South Central Los Angeles, Jordan built a lasting music legacy through his smooth vocals, stage presence, and chart-topping success. Beyond music, he has dedicated his life to ministry, mentorship, and community leadership. Alongside his wife Kristin, Jordan co-leads Marriage Masterpeace and Master Peace Church, helping strengthen marriages and families through faith-based outreach and counseling. He continues to inspire audiences worldwide through music, speaking engagements, ministry, and advocacy work and is expected to bring added energy and flair to the evening celebration.

Together, Wyche and Jordan will help celebrate an outstanding 2025–26 academic year from the MEAC’s member institutions, recognizing achievements and honoring award recipients while setting the tone for an evening centered on celebration and MEAC pride.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the MEAC Foundation and its Elite Eight member institutions, supporting scholarships, leadership development, and resources for the next generation of student-athletes.
