NORFOLK, Va., Apr. 7, 2026 – North Carolina Central senior Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was named the MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.  Norfolk State freshman Yana Klimchuk earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors. 

Hidalgo Vega (Sr., Madrid, Spain.) went undefeated in MEAC play, winning No. 1 singles over Delaware State (1-6, 6-1, 6-3) and No. 3 doubles with Valentina de Aquino (6-1), maintaining her perfect conference record in both singles and doubles. 
 
Klimchuk (Fr., Minsk, Belarus.)  posted an undefeated record in singles at the No. 3 position with wins over Hampton (7-5, 6-4), SC State (6-2, 7-6), and George Washington  
(6-1, 6-1). 

Other Top Performers 

• Franchesca Brown (HOW) went a perfect 2-0 in singles at the No. 2 spot, defeating South Carolina State and Delaware State. 
• Sara Barbaric (NCCU) closed out MEAC Roundup with a 6–4, 4–6, 6–0 win at No. 4 singles over Delaware State. 
• Yuliya Yurkova (NSU) tallied a 3-1 singles record at No. 1 and went 2-1 in doubles for the week.
