Spartans Women's Tennis Dominate Singles to Defeat South Carolina State 6-1

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over South Carolina State on Saturday morning at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Courts. 

With the win, the Spartans improve to 12-9 overall and 4-1 in MEAC play. 

FINAL: NORFOLK STATE 6, SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 1 

South Carolina State took an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. 

Norfolk State responded in dominant fashion in singles play, sweeping all six matches to secure the 6-1 victory. The win marks the Spartans' first over the Lady Bulldogs since 2015, snapping a seven-match losing streak to South Carolina State. 

In singles action, the Spartans controlled the match across the lineup. Yuliya Yurkova set the tone at the top spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Regina Urbiola rallied for a three-set win at No. 2, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. 

Julia Daroszewska delivered a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3, and Yana Klimchuk followed with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 4. 

At the bottom of the lineup, Elena Martinez Prado edged a tightly contested match at No. 5, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, while Sabina Iurea closed out the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
