Morgan State Men Shine at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. (April 4, 2026) -- The Morgan State men's track & field team continued its outdoor campaign this weekend at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, a two-day meet held at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia.

Hosted by George Mason University, the invitational featured a competitive 28-team field, including local opponents Coppin State, UMBC, Towson, and Johns Hopkins.

With the outdoor season now in full swing, the Bears will aim to carry this momentum forward as they continue preparing for the MEAC Outdoor Championships later this spring. Head coach Neville Hodge emphasized the team's continued growth, saying, "We continue to work toward getting better every week."


DAY 1 | FRIDAY, APRIL 3
Morgan State opened Day 1 of the Dalton Ebanks Invitational with several standout performances, highlighted by a first-place finish (school record) from sophomore Caleb Mincey in the 800m. Mincey delivered a personal-best time of 1:48.31 to claim the event title. Freshman Chege Kaba also turned in a strong effort on the track, placing third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.10. In the field events, freshman Jeryco Sheppard continued his strong outdoor campaign by clearing 4.60m in the pole vault for fifth place, a mark that currently ranks No. 1 among HBCUs. Sophomore Demond Smith added to the day's efforts with a 46.40m throw in the hammer.

Track Events:

400mH
Freshman Chege Kaba placed 3rd (54.10), while freshman Seth Minter placed 20th with a time of 57.67.

200m
Sophomore Maxim Copeland finished with a time of 21.64 to take 15th place, while freshman Myles Dorsey posted a time of 21.82 (19th – PR).

800m
In the 800m, sophomore Caleb Mincey delivered a historic performance, clocking a school-record and personal-best time of 1:48.31 to claim first place. Sophomore Samuel Skinner added a season-best 1:51.88 to finish 15th, while freshman Keenan Frisby posted a season-best 1:52.81 to place 25th.

 


 
Field Events:

Pole Vault
Freshman Jeryco Sheppard cleared 4.60 (No. 1 in HBCUs) for a 5th-place finish.

Hammer Throw
Sophomore Demond Smith placed 12th with a toss of 46.40m.



 


DAY 2 | SATURDAY, APRIL 4
Morgan State closed out Saturday with several standout performances, highlighted by strong relay efforts and multiple podium finishes in the field events. The Bears' 4x400m relay 'A' team delivered a runner-up finish with a season-best time of 3:13.28, while the 4x100m relay team also posted a season-best 41.24 to place fourth. In the field, Kesean-Jordan Rhooms led the way with a third-place finish in the triple jump (14.16m) and tied for second in the high jump after clearing 2.00m alongside freshman Jeryco Sheppard. Sophomore Demond Smith added a fourth-place finish in the discus (48.85m), helping cap another strong day for the Bears.

Track Events:

4x100m Relay
Morgan's 'A' Team (A. Sims, M. Copeland, M. Dorsey, R. Gilmore) crossed the tape with a season-best time of 41.24 to place 4th.

400m
Senior Antonio Sims ran a season-best 48.40 to place 7th. Freshman Seth Minter finished 18th with a time of 49.03.

100m
Sophomore Ronald Gilmore finished sixth overall with a time of 10.58. Sophomore Maxim  Copeland ran a season-best 10.76 to place 17th, while freshman Donavon. Winslow ran a season-best 10.79 (21st).

4x400m Relay
Morgan's 'A' Team (M. Dorsey, M. Copeland, A. Sims, S. Minter) was runner-up with a season-best time of 3:13.28.  Morgan's 'B' team (K. Frisby, S. Skinner, C. Mincey, C. Stuckless) placed 7th (3:17.93).

Field Events:

Triple Jump
Sophomore Kesean-Jordan Rhooms cleared 14.16m to finish in 3rd place, while freshman David Douglas recorded a mark of 13.73m to place 6th.

High Jump
Sophomore Kesean-Jordan Rhooms and freshman Jeryco Sheppard tied for 2nd place by clearing 2.00m.

Javelin Throw
Freshman Jacob Denny recorded a throw of 49.65m to notch a 10th place finish.

Discus
Sophomore Demond Smith collected a 4th place finish with a toss of 48.85.

Shot Put
Sophomore Demond Smith placed 9th with a distance of 14.27.
