MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Mar. 30, 2026 – Howard junior Makyia Taylor has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week.  Norfolk State’s Samantha Stevenson earned Rookie of the Week honors. Morgan State’s Millie Cousins was recognized as the Pitcher of the Week. 

Taylor (Jr., C, Temecula, Calif.) hit .444 in a series sweep of South Carolina State, driving in eight RBIs with two home runs, one double, and four runs scored. She posted a 1.222 slugging percentage and 1.768 OPS, while also recording 23 putouts behind the plate. 

Stevenson (Fr., R/R, Tustin, Calif.) tossed a complete-game shutout in a 2-0 victory over North Carolina Central, allowing just six hits across seven innings. 

Cousins (Jr., P, Sydney, Australia) went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA over 16.1 innings, throwing two complete games, recording 11 strikeouts, and allowing just three earned runs, helping the Bears go 3-1 on the week.

  • Tapusoa Brooklyn (CSU) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs, one double, and one home run in Game Three of the series versus Delaware State. 

  • Kailey Bryant (NSU) tossed 8.1 scoreless innings and set a school record with 13 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout over Mid-Atlantic Christian. 

  • Aiko Conaway (HOW) pitched 11.1 innings with a 2.47 ERA, recording 12 strikeouts and one complete-game shutout, leading the Bison to a series sweep of South Carolina State. 

  • Makalah Clark (UMES) went 4-for-7 at the plate in UMES’ series vs. Morgan State, driving in two RBIs and scoring one run. 

  • Kendal Daniels (NCCU) hit .333 on the week and delivered the game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning of a 2-1 win over Norfolk State. 

  • Madeline Janssen (NCCU) tossed 17.1 innings with a 2.02 ERA, including two complete games, finishing the week with a 1-1 record. 

  • Maya Johnson (NSU) hit .545 (6-for-11) with one home run and one double, scoring four runs and driving in three RBIs while collecting thirty-four putouts at first base. 

  • Alison Keener (MSU) batted .636 (7-for-11) with three doubles, two RBIs, and three runs scored, helping Morgan State to its first MEAC series sweep of the season. 

  • Amirah Lenon (HOW) batted .333 with a .762 OPS over three games, adding four stolen bases for the Bison. 

  • Terrell Nevaeh (DSU) finished the week with seven hits, four RBIs, four runs scored, two doubles, and four stolen bases for the Hornets.
