MEAC Announces Weekly Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 17, 2026 — North Carolina Central senior Rodrigo Alves was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. 
Delaware State junior Catherine Goldman was named Women’s Tennis Player, while North Carolina Central’s Sara Barbaric earned Rookie of the Week honors.   
  
Alves (Sr., Porto, Portugal) had a strong showing against Campbell, winning his No. 2 singles match 6–4, 7–6 (7–3) and teaming with Kareem Abdul Hakim to take the doubles point 6–4.  

Goldman (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) delivered a standout performance against Seton Hall, clinching the doubles point with a 6–2 win at No. 3 and battling back to secure a three-set victory at No. 2 singles (4–6, 6–2, 10–5).  

Barbaric (Fr., Osijek, Croatia) won in singles and doubles in NC Central's 7-0 victory over Mount Olive on Feb. 11. Barbaric won No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and was joined by Valeria San Miguel Soria in a No. 2 doubles triumph, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point. 

Other Top Performers   
  • Franchesa Brown (HOW) earned her first collegiate singles victory over William & Mary’s Tilda Larsson (3–6, 7–6, 10–8). 
  • Maite Bou Safont (DSU) clinched the doubles point at No. 1 with a 7–5 victory over Seton Hall. 
  • Alejandra Hidalgo Vega (NCCU) led NC Central to its first win of the season with a 6–1, 6–3 victory at No. 1 singles over Mount Olive.
