NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State remained unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play, while Howard and Delaware State picked up key victories to headline an action-packed week of MEAC volleyball.
Coppin State continued its dominant start to league play, earning a 3-0 sweep at South Carolina State on Friday before securing a 3-1 victory over North Carolina Central on Sunday. Coco Figueroa surpassed 1,500 career digs in Friday’s win over the Bulldogs. The Eagles have won 12 consecutive matches, marking the fourth-longest active winning streak in NCAA Division I behind Nebraska, Pittsburgh, and College of Charleston.
Howard captured its first home victory of the season Thursday night, defeating Delaware State, 3-1. The Bison carried that momentum into the weekend, outlasting Maryland Eastern Shore in a five-set thriller on Sunday, 3-2.
After falling to Howard on Thursday, Delaware State responded on Sunday with a 3-0 road sweep of Norfolk State. Emma Patmon led the Hornets’ offense with a game-high 13 kills.
Norfolk State opened the week with a 3-1 midweek victory over Hampton on Wednesday. On Friday, the Spartans dropped a 32-30 marathon opening set to Maryland Eastern Shore before storming back to win three straight sets for a 3-1 victory in front of 298 fans at Gill Gymnasium. The win marked NSU’s first victory over the Hawks since Nov. 1, 2024. Gabrielle Gilbert recorded a double-double with a match-high 21 kills (.400 hitting percentage), four aces, and 12 digs.
North Carolina Central edged Morgan State, 3-2, on Friday at McDougald-McLendon Arena in the MEAC Volleyball Match of the Week. Morgan State rebounded on Sunday, earning a five-set road victory over South Carolina State.
