NORFOLK, Va. — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its football weekly honors, highlighted by Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Edge’s Morgan State teammates Evan Cooke and Alex Amaya were named Offensive Lineman of the Week and Specialist of the Week, respectively, while Howard’s Aidan Foster earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Offensive Player of the Week: Cameron Edge | Morgan State | QB | Sr. | Clayton, Del.
Edge delivered a record-setting performance in Morgan State’s thrilling 38-35 win over Villanova, completing 31-of-40 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns while adding two rushing scores. His second rushing touchdown came with 36 seconds remaining to give the Bears the victory, while his 444 passing yards rank third in Morgan State history.
Defensive Player of the Week: Aidan Foster | Howard | LB | So. | Washington, D.C.
Foster recorded five total tackles, including four solo stops, and added 1.5 sacks in Howard’s 27-13 victory over Hampton.
Rookie of the Week: Da’Jean Golmond | Norfolk State | QB | Fr. | Denham Springs, La.
Golmond continued his impressive freshman campaign with 376 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in Norfolk State’s 33-31 loss at Robert Morris. He completed 27-of-45 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, while also catching a six-yard touchdown pass on a trick play. His 371 passing yards rank seventh in program history.
Offensive Lineman of the Week: Evan Cooke | Morgan State | OL | Jr. | Germantown, Md.
Cooke helped pave the way for a Morgan State offense that produced 521 total yards, including 444 through the air, in the Bears’ 38-35 win over Villanova. He posted the highest grade among Morgan State offensive linemen at 92 percent while leading the team with seven knockdowns.
Specialist of the Week: Alex Amaya | Morgan State | K/P | So. | Hyattsville, Md.
Amaya delivered a strong all-around performance on special teams in Morgan State’s 38-35 win over Villanova. He averaged 36.5 yards on four punts, including a long of 41 yards, while connecting on a season-high 39-yard field goal and going 5-for-5 on PATs.
Other Top Performers
- Ja’Shawn Scroggins (Howard) – Scroggins accounted for 331 yards of total offense in Howard’s 27-13 win over Hampton, passing for 267 yards and a touchdown while adding 64 rushing yards.
- Marco Peery (Norfolk State) – Peery handled both placekicking and punting duties in Norfolk State’s 33-31 loss at Robert Morris. He made a 32-yard field goal and all four extra-point attempts, averaged 38.2 yards on four punts and added a 19-yard rush on a fake punt to extend a Spartans scoring drive.
- Tyler Leinberger (Norfolk State) – Leinberger anchored a Norfolk State offensive line that allowed just one sack on 46 pass attempts in the Spartans’ 33-31 loss at Robert Morris. The Spartans totaled 491 yards of offense, including 377 passing yards, while converting all three fourth-down attempts and scoring on all five trips to the red zone.
