NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) wrapped up Week 5 action Saturday with two teams earning victories, highlighted by Morgan State’s thrilling 38-35 win over Villanova.
Howard also picked up a 27-13 victory over Hampton in the Battle of the Real HU, while Norfolk State fell to Robert Morris 33-31, South Carolina State dropped a 34-31 heartbreaker to The Citadel, Delaware State lost to UAlbany 28-3 and North Carolina Central fell to Campbell 38-31.

Howard snapped a three-game losing streak with a 27-13 win over Hampton in the Battle of the Real HU at Audi Field. Ja’Shawn Scroggins threw for 267 yards and a touchdown while adding 64 rushing yards, and the Bison defense recorded a season-high six sacks and limited Hampton to 36 rushing yards. Billy Roberson II added a 52-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Morgan State (4-1, 0-0 MEAC) – Box Score
Morgan State continued its strong start to the season with a thrilling 38-35 victory over Villanova on Saturday at Villanova Stadium. Cameron Edge turned in a record-book performance, completing 31-of-40 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns, the third-most passing yards in Morgan State history, before scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 36 seconds remaining. The Bears improved to 4-1, marking their best start to a season since opening 5-1 in 2009.
Norfolk State (3-3, 0-0 MEAC) – Box Score
Norfolk State’s rally from a 17-point deficit came up just short Saturday, as the Spartans fell 33-31 to Robert Morris at Joe Walton Stadium. Norfolk State scored 21 unanswered points across the third and fourth quarters to take a 31-27 lead, but Robert Morris answered with the go-ahead touchdown with 1:25 remaining. Da’Jean Golmond then led a 61-yard drive to set up Marco Peery’s 52-yard field goal attempt as time expired, but the kick hit the crossbar and fell short.
South Carolina State (5-1, 0-0 MEAC) – Box Score
South Carolina State rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but The Citadel’s Evan Kiely hit a 31-yard field goal as time expired to hand the Bulldogs a heartbreaking 34-31 loss Saturday at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. The loss snapped South Carolina State’s five-game winning streak and dropped the Bulldogs to 5-1. Keely Watson threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, while Mason Pickett-Hicks totaled 129 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. South Carolina State erased a 31-17 deficit with 14 unanswered points, but The Citadel answered with an 85-yard game-winning drive in the final 2:23.
Delaware State (3-3, 0-0 MEAC) – Box Score
Delaware State’s defense turned in a solid effort despite a 28-3 loss to UAlbany on Saturday at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. The Hornets held the Great Danes to 226 yards of total offense and just 87 passing yards while recording three sacks. Lucas Campizta led the defensive effort with 10 tackles, while Carl Nesmith added seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Patrick Fisher-Butler accounted for Delaware State’s lone points with a 45-yard field goal.
North Carolina Central (2-4, 0-0 MEAC) – Box Score
North Carolina Central battled back from a 17-point deficit to tie Campbell at 31 in the third quarter, but the Fighting Camels scored the only touchdown of the fourth quarter to defeat the Eagles 38-31 Saturday at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium. The loss dropped NCCU to 2-4 and marked the Eagles’ third straight defeat. Zion Dobson rushed for a 63-yard touchdown to tie the game midway through the third quarter, but Campbell’s Jyron Waiters scored on a 9-yard touchdown reception with 7:28 remaining to provide the winning margin.
