NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 21, 2026-- Coppin State senior Solomon Hammond was selected as Men's Track Athlete of the Week while
Norfolk State sophomore Jaymes Saunders earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Hammond (Sr., Accra, Ghana) won the 60 meters clocking in at 6.67 at the HBCU Showcase, ranking first in the MEAC and 27th nationally, while also finishing second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.30.
Saunders (So., Hampton, VA) secured first place in the long jump with a leap of 7.52 meters, placed fourth in the high jump at 1.96 meters, and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.93 at the HBCU Showcase.
Other Top Performers
- Drew Dillard (HOW) claimed gold in the 60-meter hurdles at the HBCU Showcase with a MEAC-best time of 7.87, ranking 44th nationally.
- Malcolm Forbes (NCCU) captured first place in the triple jump at the Dick Taylor Challenge with a mark of 13.80 meters.
- Shamar Heard (NSU) won the 400 meters at the HBCU Showcase with a time of 48.54
- Orlando McClean (NCCU) captured first place in the 60 meters at the Dick Taylor Challenge with a time of 6.86.
- Caleb Mincey (MSU) won the 800-meter at the HBCU Showcase, clocking in at 1:52.89.
- Banele Mkabela (UMES) finished first in the distance event at the HBCU Challenge with a personal-best time of 8:31.44.
- Demond Smith (MSU) claimed first place in the weight throw at the HBCU Showcase with a mark of 16.18 meters, while also finishing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.05 meters.
- Sean Williams (CSU) placed third in the high jump at the HBCU Showcase with a leap of 2.01 meters.
