WASHINGTON (September 11, 2025) – Howard University cross country continues its season in Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invitational, hosted by the Cavaliers.
 
The men's 8k race starts at 8:45 a.m. ET, followed by the women's 5k race at 9:30 a.m. ET. Times are subject to change pending weather conditions.

MEET PREVIEW
 
Panorama Farms is a privately owned farm of 850 acres located off Earlysville Road, approximately six miles from the Grounds of the University of Virginia (UVA). The property has nine miles of cut grass trails and 30 miles of wooded mountain bike trails. There are two different 5K courses, as well as a 6K, an 8K and a 10K course each with a common starting line and finish line. The courses are laid out entirely on rolling grass fields that are maintained year-round. The courses are exceptionally spectator friendly.
 
Entering this year's meet, 10 institutions will be represented: Howard; UVA; Appalachian State; George Washington; John Hopkins; Mary Washington; Norfolk State; Richmond; Western Carolina and William & Mary.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Aug. 29, both squads finished third overall at the annual Mount 5K Duals, hosted by Mount St. Mary's.
 
On the men's side, freshman standout Sayid Shakur (Fort Washington, Md.) led the way, earning ninth overall in the race with a 16:06.32 mark.
 
For the women, sophomore Mira Martin (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) led the charge, each finishing in the top 10.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Oct. 4, HU goes to Bethlehem, Pa., for the annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh.
