DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central men's tennis team had a busy and memorable fall season. Not only were the Eagles in competition, but they were also celebrated by both city and state officials.
NCCU was crowned the HBCU National Tennis Champion in September, finishing first among 10 teams in Atlanta. The Maroon and Gray earned 82 points, securing their first title since 2014.
Their victory brought significant recognition. NCCU alumnus and Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams honored the team during an Oct. 20 city council meeting, issuing a proclamation declaring October "NCCU Men's Tennis HBCU National Champions Month."
The State of North Carolina followed suit. Governor Josh Stein recognized the team's achievement by proclaiming Oct. 1 as "In Recognition of the NCCU Men's Tennis Team HBCU National Championship Win."
With the fall season wrapped up, the Eagles now look ahead to the spring as they continue to exemplify Eagle excellence.
