CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central men's tennis team completed its time at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships that took place from Oct. 16-20 at Cary Tennis Park. The tournament was hosted by Duke, bringing together teams from both North and South Carolina. Senior Rodrigo Alves delivered with three victories over stiff competition.

Alves opened the tournament winning both of his qualifier rounds. First up was Martin Mazev of UNC Wilmington. After dropping the first set, Alves won the remaining sets 6-2, 6-4. He followed up with a triumph over Clemson's Nathan Pitts (2-6, 6-3, 6-4), advancing to the main draw.

Naresh Bharathy also played in the main draw against Jan Montero Diaz of Queens, while Alves met up with North Carolina's Roan Jones. Both Eagles dropped their matches but were able to compete again in the consolation round.

In doubles, Leo Fortier-Gariepy joined Alves and defeated the Davidson duo of Kai Villagomez and Nikhil Mukherjee, 8-7. The pair also played Alexander Visser and Teddy Truwit of Duke, falling 8-4. Bharathy and Antoni Pankowski dropped their doubles match to Joaquin Guilleme and Ariel Zauber of last year's NCAA National Champions, Wake Forest.

The Eagles' fall finale takes place on Nov. 1-2 at Hampton's Pirate Hidden Dual.
