MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

North Carolina Central’s Harper Earn Top Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., November 17 – North Carolina Central’s Kamren Harper has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced today. Coppin State’s Cherisse Atilano earned Rookie of the Week honors. North Carolina Central’s Manuela Cripa Nasser was recognized as Setter of the Week while teammate Loren Johnson claimed Defensive Player of the Week accolades. 

Harper (NCCU, Gr., OH, Simpsonville, SC) led North Carolina Central to a 3-0 win over South Carolina State, recording 21 kills and 14 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. 

Atilano (CSU, Fr., OH, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) posted four kills, 12 digs, and three aces in Coppin State's 3-0 victory over Morgan State. 

Nasser (NCCU, Gr., S, Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded 36 assists, seven digs, and one block in a 3-0 win over South Carolina State. 

Johnson (NCCU, Gr., L/DS, Charlotte, NC) tallied 19 digs and seven assists in a 3-0 victory over South Carolina State. 

Other Top Performers  

  • Coco Figueroa (CSU) recorded 12 digs, five assists, and two aces in Coppin State’s 3-0 sweep of Morgan State.  
  • Gabrielle Gilbert (NSU) tallied 15 kills, seven digs, one block, and one ace against Howard. 
  • Alexys James (HOW) contributed six kills and one ace in the win over Norfolk State.
  • Jasmine Mataira (NSU) tallied 22 assists and added three digs in the loss to Howard. 
  • Rya McKinnon (HOW) totaled 14 kills, adding two blocks and two digs against Norfolk State.
  • Mary Nahinu (NSU) recorded 10 digs in the loss to Howard. 
  • Azul Pilahg (CSU) recorded 19 assists and four digs in a 3-0 sweep of Morgan State. 
  • Leah Reeves (HOW) contributed 31 assists and three aces in the 3-0 win over Norfolk State
  • Allyson Rouse (NCCU) tallied six kills, six blocks, and four digs against South Carolina State. 
  • Claire Simpson (HOW) recorded a match-high 17 digs versus Norfolk State.
  • TaKenya Stafford (CSU) tallied 16 kills and 12 digs, marking her 20th double-double of the season and breaking Coppin State’s single-season kills record.
